While under sedation in the dentist's chair, Lieutennant Disher is certain that he saw the dentist and his assistant murder a man. However, he has trouble getting people to believe him as they all think he just imagined it. (Stottlemeyer admits he once thought his mustache was a chipmunk.) He then pays a visit to Monk and asks him if he'll look into it for him. Reluctantly, and despite his fear of dentists, Monk agrees to investigate. Later on, Monk is kidnapped, strapped to the dentist's chair, and forced to tell the doctor vital information and it is there that Monk pieces together what happened.
